The Beachlings Survey, launching Autumn 2025, in Oman

Oman is currently faced with a significant gap in the data needed to monitor plastic pollution across terrestrial and marine environments. To help close this gap, a new citizen science child-led initiative is being launched, which will enable children to contribute directly to national plastic pollution datasets through carefully designed, research-aligned methods.
The Project Earthlings team has developed scientifically sound yet accessible protocols for monitoring micro- and macroplastic waste on beaches. Launching in Autumn 2025, these methods are designed to work both in and out of school settings. The method is called ‘The Beachlings Survey’ so keep your eyes peeled for more info soon! As the surveying protocol rolls out this autumn, young people will continue to support data analysis and fieldwork. The work aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040, advancing national goals in education, environmental stewardship, and scientific innovation.
